Q-10Starting point
Something is wrong and I cannot say what
The business feels stuck, and there is no single obvious cause.
Then do not start with a solution. Look at five areas in turn: customers, money, goals, how the work gets done, and tools. Find the weakest one. The ten-question check takes three minutes and costs nothing.
5 things to look at
- Customers. You have stopped hearing what they want.
- Money. The figures are not recorded, or not read.
- Goals. There is no written target, so every week looks the same.
- Work. Too much depends on you being present.
- Tools. Time is lost to equipment and systems that do not fit.
Checks you can do yourself
These cost nothing but time. Do them in order. If they answer the question, you do not need us.
Take the ten-question check
Ten yes or no questions. Start the check. Nothing is sent to us.
Compare this month with three months ago
Sales, costs and what was left. If you cannot, that is your first finding.
Ask three regular customers one question
“What nearly made you go somewhere else?”
Ask the people who work with you what wastes their time
Staff and family in the business usually know.
Write down the one thing you would fix first
If you could fix only one thing this month, what would it be? Start there.
- You have been stuck for more than three months.
- Everyone you ask gives a different answer.
- You are tempted by a big change, such as moving premises or starting a new line.
- You want an outside view from someone with nothing to sell you on the day.
Business Check-up
